Diagnosis
The patient diagnosis will involve asking the patient-specific questions and examining
medical history. The information gathered will help in determining specific physical and medical
tests to undertake. Some of the identifiable signs and symptoms of pericarditis include prolonged
and sharp chest pain and difficulty in breathing. A doctor will have to take a physical
examination and check the heart sound to listen if there is a pericardial rub. The sound is caused
by pericardium walls rubbing against each other. The following medical tests need to be carried
out; Electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, and echocardiogram test. ECG test will help to measure

shape of the heart (Geske JB et al. 2017). The image obtained from the x-ray test will show if
there is excess fluid accumulation in the pericardium. Besides, the echocardiogram test will
capture the heart and its structure. It will also obtain the pericardium, and a doctor will analyze
the image in a monitor or through printed paper and results revealed.
Can Pericarditis Affect Cardiac Performance
Cardiac performance will be affected due to cardiac tamponade. The condition occurs
when a large pericardial effusion impairs the cardiac filling, which causes a low cardiac out. It is
possible to affect cardiac performance because the pericardium walls are inflamed, meaning the
