I will post at least ten different articles onto BBLearn, in a folder labeled “Response Paper Articles.” You will need to skim the posted articles, choose four to read in depth, and then write a brief response to each of those papers (one article per response paper). Each response paper must be no less than 2 and no more than 4 page(s) long; you may use single, 1 ½ or double spacing and you may use any reasonable font between 10 and 12 pt to achieve the desired length. (Note: margins should be reasonable as well – there is no need for 3 inch margins on all sides!) The only “header” information at the top of the page should be your name and the title of the article to which you are responding.
Response papers will be graded on a 5 point scale: you can earn a five (100%) – you responded to the material thoughtfully and showed insight and engaged the material fully, a four (80%) – you commented on the paper, and perhaps discussed a minor relationship to other areas, but did not show notable insight into the relationships between the paper and other items (personal experiences, other course information, other courses you have taken, etc.); a three (60%) – you provided a basic summation of the article and one link to another item; a 2 (40%) – you simply summarize the paper (wrote a “book report” in effect), or a 1 (20%) – you failed to even summarize the paper, but did write at least a paragraph related to the paper. Barring that, it is a 0. Any paper that is too short will drop by one grading increment (ex., from 80% to 60%) for each HALF page that it is short. Each response paper is worth 90 points of your final grade for a total of 360 points (4 x 90 = 360).
As noted above – any paper never submitted will result in an automatic “F” for the final course grade.
